He who thinks The Sublime is definitely a case of utter seriousness, has not yet seen the Meta-paintings of Marianne Schuit. Just as playful as they are dead serious, one cannot escape the notion that to be able to reach the deepest, the most truthful, it takes a very childlike mind, open to all the astonishingly folly accompanying even the most serious acts in life.
The naturalness of the gestures in Meta-paintings like Inside rigid boundaries, Insight and Understatement seems to ‘portray’ the bizarre as just another manifestation of the usual.
Especially Insight seems to find itself in an altered state of enlightenment in which light-hearted playfulness acts as a gate to an effortless awareness of all there is to ‘know’.
